INTRODUCTION
Welcome visitors who are interested in the poetics of civil and human rights!
As a group of college freshmen, we read Song for His Disappeared Love by Raúl Zurita and Citizen: An American Lyric by Claudia Rankine to identify specific issues of civil and human rights. In our online exhibit, you will experience the content and form of the literary works and understand how they relate to the broader themes of civil and human rights. Below are short descriptions about each book, so please have a look and choose the book that you would like to learn more about. You will be able to navigate to another book by using the tabs on the top right corner of this website.

As Martin Luther King, Jr. has said, deprived and tarnished rights of citizens have existed in the past, exist now, and will exist in the future. The books use techniques of poetry to explore the elements of civil and human rights in order to incorporate them into modern society. As ambassadors, we would like to educate our audience regarding the historical allusions that detail the civil and human rights violations in the world. By navigating through the multimodal features of this online exhibit, we hope to provide an overview of each literary work and how they affect the readers’ experiences.
